Since we started sharing Art as Catharsis with the world, we very quickly went in to lockdown so haven't been able to arrange any screenings recently but here's a bit about a couple we had beforehand.
First was the exclusive !GWAK X Futurefirst Screening Party at Whirled Cinema in London in December 2019. Here I was part of an all-female a Q&A panel and the film was screened amongst a fantastic array of shorts by diverse creators. Unfortunately we didn't get much time to take photos at the event but there's one of some of the audience below.
If you didn't know, Art as Catharsis was funded by The Godalming Film Society, and as part of our agreement we screened it for them too. Art as Catharsis opened for Cold War (Dir. Pawel Pawlikowski) and was received really well, with another Q&A. At the event, I was reminded I'm the youngest Director they've ever funded and the first to make a documentary! This is also the biggest screen I've seen it on, Lots of firsts here...
Seeing my film on the big screen was a wonderful yet nerve-wracking experience and I was met with incredibly positive reactions and lots of interesting questions which is always fantastic! Thank you to everyone that came along to either of the screenings, even the lady that asked "What is art?" to which I pretty much responded "Whatever you want, go make something!"
I really look forward to having more art and film events in person again, and hopefully we might get to share Art as Catharsis like this again before the next film!
